Our vision is to reach and befriend more and more people who consider themselves to be marginalised, to see them grow in Security, Self Worth, and Significance, and to increase in our ability to serve them. This can be summed up by two passages from scripture: The Messianic Promise, and the story of Adullam’s Cave
The Messianic Promise -
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the
to proclaim freedom for the
and release for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lords
favour. Isaiah 61:1-2
The story of Adullam’s Cave -
Since the mid 70s, this story has inspired the church, and motivated us to develop meaningful friendships of love, trust, and support.
Many have found their needs being met through acts of kindness and friendship.
Adullams Cave was a place where King David found refuge, and where others came to join him. We believe that the Shaftesbury Christian Centre is such a place.
David left Gath and escaped to the caves of Adullam. When his brothers and his father’s household heard about it, they went down to there. All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered round him, and he became their leader. 1 Samuel 22
We know from the story that those who joined David became a mighty army, our vision is for those who find support from our ministry that they will subsequently minister to others.
